Most of us will enjoy freedom from our regular routine for a few days in celebration of the fourth of July…our Independence Day…our time to remember the sacrifice and bravery it took for our forefathers to declare independence and establish a new nation. The history of the United States journey to Independence is a fascinating story. We live in freedom every day without a thought about what our freedom cost.

The day in 1776 that the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress. Independence Day is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the Declaration of Independence of the United States on July 4, 1776. The Continental Congress declared that the thirteen American colonies were no longer subject to the monarch of Britain and were now united, free, and independent states. Wikipedia

I have the privilege of meeting many who have served in the military. We are the only freight broker training course approved to trained Chapter 31 disabled vets as freight brokers and freight broker agents. (Click the link to learn more about Chapter 31)

These men and women sacrificed much to make sure our country stays free. They fight for the oppressed. They are peacemakers throughout the world.
Some veterans that I talk with every day, come to our training courses some do not, but I always enjoy talking with them and hearing of their stories.

Brooke Transportation Training is the only school in the nation qualified under the “Chapter 31” program to train disabled veterans to become freight brokers. We can work with you through your counselor to get you trained and equipped to be a freight broker or a freight broker agent. In a month’s time you can be trained and ready to start this exciting career.

A freight broker is an ideal job for a disabled vet. A freight broker is skilled in matching freight loads with carriers to move those loads to the intended destination. Since the job is done by phone and computer, a freight broker can easily make a great income from the comfort of their home. Family members can help in the job. In fact we often train a husband and wife at the same time so they both have the needed skills for success.

Memorial Day is a day to reflect on the sacrifice that so many have made for freedom. I am so thankful for those in my family that have served in the military. I don’t have anyone in my close family that gave their life serving but many who sacrificed a lot to go defend our country in a foreign land. I am very thankful for that. I will take time out of my day to express my gratitude. I challenge all of my readers to do the same.

Memorial Day used to be called Decoration Day because it was a day set aside to adorn graves of fallen soldiers with flowers. I was wondering how many graves we should be adorning this Memorial Day.

Do you think this dream of MLK has come to be? I believe our country has made great strides in ensuring that all men are treated equal. We can do more. King was a champion of equality way ahead of his time. He was not an angry protester but a man with a heart for truth that spoke with courage and dignity. He taught that we can fight for equal rights without hateful words, loud chants and degrading speech.We have laws on the books ensuring equal employment opportunity, voting rights and equal access to public places. But the place that needs to be changed the most is our hearts and thoughts. As long as we believe in our hearts that we are better than someone else then we do not truly believe that all men are created equal.

Today is the day set aside to honor a man worthy of honor. Not many of us get our own holiday but Martin Luther King, Jr. earned that amazing feat. Jesus has a holiday, Lincoln and Washington used their own holidays, now we have presidents day. That’s it. So today think of all this man did to be remembered with great celebration.

He was a baptist preacher who changed our country with kindness and boldness in a few short years. He called out men and women of all races to get out of the dark and see how great the light is. He was a man of high integrity and great courage.

I find great inspiration in quotes. Here are a few favorites from Martin Luther King, Jr.I found in Newsweek:

Spend some time today reflecting on the impact this one man made in our society. Don’t under estimate your ability to be an agent of change where you are.

As we welcome in another new year I like to take some time to reflect and plan.

Reflect on 2018.  Take your time.  Take a deep breath and browse through your 2018 calendar.  Remember the events, meetings and parties throughout the year. What was the best thing that you enjoyed?  Name some other things that were great, good and helpful.  What was the biggest challenge you endured?  I try to learn something from the ups and the downs in my day, my week, my month and my year. Opportunities to reflect are available every day.  Too often I rush into the “next” thing I want to do, next event to plan or next meeting to prepare without taking time to reflect on all that I learned from the recent past.  I have missed opportunities in my rush to the next thing.

Plan for 2019.  How can you take what you learned from 2018 and implement those lessons into your new year?  I am a life long learner so I am making a list of what I can learn this year so I can be the better for my family, better  in my career and better as a person.

I challenge you to learn something new today, this week, this month and this year.

You could totally change the trajectory of your life by learning a new thing.  As this year progresses I will tell you about some of the courses available through our online learning center.  My career and thus my premier course is freight broker training but because I know that is not for everyone I offer a variety of other online courses to help others find a better future.
